The coating of automotive spline shafts requires special characteristics such as dimensional stability, wear resistance, and the same life-long service life as the car. Nowadays , almost all family cars and some heavy-duty trucks use PA11 coating for their splines. This PA11 coating can effectively reduce noise caused by transmission friction , lower energy consumption, and it is superbly wear-resistant. The PA 11 coating still would be seen as almost intact even the car is being scrapped.

The coating process involves shot blasting or phosphating the surface of spline, then pre-coating spline with special primer,  followed by heating  the spline up to the temperature around 280 ℃,  immersing it in a nylon fluidization bed for about 3 times, wind-cooling and water-cooling to form even and smooth suraface, finised by cutting the excessive parts with punch machine.
